Negotiating a renewal collective agreement is a critical opportunity to advance working conditions for Unit 5 postdoctoral fellows across the University of Toronto’s three campuses.
Dear President Gertler, As you know, CUPE 3902 has worked hard to facilitate productive conversations with the University of Toronto administration and student organizers from U of T Occupy for Palestine regarding their demands for financial disclosure, divestment from Israeli apartheid, and termination of all partnerships with Israeli academic institutions that operate on illegal settlements…
In the summer of 2023, you and your coworkers in CUPE 3902 and 3261 began a unified bargaining campaign. From the beginning, the university has insisted on keeping us divided, but you organized, built collective power, and together you are part of the first unified campaign at the University of Toronto. Our coordination and solidarity have already secured significant gains for thousands of CUPE members in both 3902 and 3261. Still, many important issues remain unresolved by the University’s proposals; strike preparations will continue!
Your bargaining committee (BC) met with the employer on Thursday, Feb. 22nd. Here is what you need to know.

Your employer, however, has still not presented any written proposals regarding financials, transit subsidies, your benefits package, or job security. What are they waiting for?
The results are in, and they’re historic!
