Bargaining Bulletin #11

Coordination Continues: Stronger Together!

Last week, Units 3 and 7 reached tentative agreements with the Employer on the eve of the April 1st strike deadline. Units 2, 4, and 6 remain at the bargaining table, and are building on the momentum of last week’s tentative agreements to continue pushing for significant gains at the table for you and your coworkers.

Read the latest on your coordinated campaign—including news from the Unit 2, 4, and 6 tables, and upcoming ratification meetings for Units 3 and 7—below.

Units Table Updates

Unit 2

Last week, your Unit 2 Bargaining Team had a productive session with the Employer. Discussions on your priorities related to job security and equitable employment continued. Furthermore, we tabled wages and health benefits, and with those last pending financial items, we look forward to having a fulsome reply from Victoria University soon, as well as quicker table movement. We met with the Employer today (April 7th – update forthcoming!) and have two additional dates pending in April: Monday, April 14th, and Friday, April 25th. With that in mind, your bargaining team and the employer have now agreed that Unit 2 now has a new strike deadline of April 26th, in the hopes of keeping momentum and both parties committed to moving things forward.

Unit 4

Your Unit 4 Bargaining Committee met with the Employer on Thursday, April 3rd. A Conciliator from the Ministry of Labour was present for the negotiations. We are encouraged by the forward progress we have made at the table but continue to press the Employer for more responses to the comprehensive package we tabled on Day 1 of negotiations. Your Bargaining Committee will continue to fight to achieve the better working conditions, job security, compensation, and benefits you deserve. We met with the Employer again today (Monday, April 7th – update forthcoming!), and we have secured future bargaining dates on Wednesday, April 16th, Tuesday, April 22nd, and Thursday, April 24th.

Unit 6

Your bargaining team met with the Employer on Wednesday, April 2nd and Friday, April 4th. On Friday, the Conciliator attended, enabling us to file a No Board should the parties reach an impasse. The parties have made progress on housekeeping items and some other straightforward proposals, but the Employer has not yet responded to our proposals on ISA and H-Course priorities. On IFP priorities, the Employer has said they are not amenable to our IFP proposals to add term restrictions to the Lead role and to create Curriculum Development Teams (CDTs). Your bargaining team will continue to push the Employer to find workable solutions to this IFP priority and get their responses to our ISA and H-Course priorities. We have secured future bargaining dates on Wednesday, April 16th, Thursday, April 17th, Tuesday, April 22nd, Wednesday, April 23rd, Thursday, April 24th, and Friday, April 25th.

Unit 3 and Unit 7 Ratification Meetings

Now that your Unit 3 and Unit 7 bargaining teams have reached Tentative Agreements (TAs), it is up to you as the members of your respective Units to vote to adopt your TA, after which it would then become your Collective Agreement (CA) for 2024–2027.

We will have a membership meeting to go through your Unit’s Tentative Agreement (TA) together. If you want a full membership vote on this offer, you need to attend the ratification meeting!
