Yes<!––>Subject: I support CUPE 3902 Unit 1 workers’ demandsDear University of Toronto Administration, I am writing as an in regard to your current round of bargaining with Unit 1 Contract Education workers. You have been bargaining with Unit 1 contract education workers since the end of 2020, and I am pleased to see that, although both parties are now in conciliation, you are still meeting frequently. Nearly 3000 Unit 1 members voted in favour of their strike mandate, demonstrating unprecedented support for their bargaining team’s reasonable and progressive proposals. I and countless others from throughout the U of T community and beyond echo this support. CUPE 3902’s main priorities for this round of bargaining are to improve workload standards, foster inclusion and anti-oppression at the University, increase compensation and job security, and promote (mental) health and safety. Now that Unit 1 members have shown that they care about what happens at the bargaining table and are willing to fight for their priorities, it is crucial that a satisfactory Tentative Agreement is reached in good time. Unit 1 members need a better Collective Agreement that not only improves their often imbalanced and financially precarious work-lives, but also better supports their students. CUPE 3902’s proposals for more transparency, health, equity, safety, inclusion, and security at U of T will achieve these mutually beneficial changes!
